Invited by King Willem-Alexander, Tusk arrived in Amsterdam on Sunday evening as the Dutch observed Remembrance Day.

On Liberation Day, festivities will shift to Wageningen, where German forces formally surrendered on May 5, 1945.

There, Tusk will hold talks with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and deliver a special lecture on freedom and democracy at Wageningen University & Research.

Tusk and Schoof are scheduled to make a joint press appearance in Oosterbeek in the afternoon.

In the evening, Tusk will meet with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, as well as Dutch government leaders and foreign dignitaries, in Amsterdam’s Royal Carré Theatre.

The day’s events will conclude with a Freedom Flame lighting ceremony and a concert by the River Amstel, attended by the Dutch royal couple and Princess Beatrix.

The program also includes a canal boat cruise with the Dutch monarch.
