On Thursday, ministry spokesperson Paweł Wroński confirmed the decision, marking a downgrade in Poland’s diplomatic representation in Hungary.

The move follows an announcement on Wednesday by Levente Magyar, Hungary’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, who described Poland’s recall as “regrettable” and “unprecedented” in the history of Central European relations.

Magyar attributed the decision to a gradual deterioration of political ties but emphasized the situation is temporary and pledged to maintain dialogue, underscoring the long-standing friendship between the two countries despite current disagreements.

Referring to this, Wroński reminded that Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski had summoned the Polish ambassador in Hungary for “indefinite consultations” in Warsaw.

This decision was prompted by Hungary’s granting of asylum to PiS MP and former Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski, who is under investigation for his involvement in the Justice Fund case during the previous Polish government.
