Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Duszczyk said the reforms will define a minimum length of stay in Poland - including for those of Polish descent - and introduce requirements related to tax residency and a citizenship test.

Poland's president has separately submitted a bill to parliament calling for the minimum continuous residence period to be extended from three to ten years.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński told reporters on Monday that, in practice, no one in Poland obtains citizenship after just three years of residence, accusing the presidential administration of "misleading the public" with such claims.

Kierwiński added that the ministry intends to discuss the proposed changes with the Presidential Palace.
