According to media reports, however, the White House has not abandoned diplomatic efforts and is still sending negotiators to the region in hopes of reviving dialogue.

Speaking on Friday during the unveiling of a new presidential aircraft set to serve as Air Force One, US President Donald Trump warned Tehran that time was running out to reach an agreement.

"If Iran does not conclude a deal within 60 days, we will do something they will not like," Trump said during the ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington.

During his remarks, Trump addressed relations with China, the conflict involving Iran, and security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes.

"Ships are moving through the strait without disruptions on a scale nobody has ever seen before," Trump said. "Oil is everywhere. You're going to see oil prices fall to very low levels."

The president said an agreement had been reached earlier this week that gives Iran 60 days to finalize a broader deal with the United States.

"If they don't, we will take actions they won't like. But I don't think it will come to that. I believe everything will work out very well," he added.

Trump also warned that military escalation could threaten maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

"If we have to act, oil will no longer flow so freely through the strait. People who own ships worth billions of dollars do not like missiles flying over their heads or mines scattered in the water," he said.

The president also confirmed plans for future international travel, including a visit to Turkey for the NATO summit expected in July and a later trip to China. He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States in September.

Trump thanked China for what he described as its restraint regarding Iran.
