Police stated that the “intentional” damage to technical infrastructure occurred around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Reuters. Power supplies in the region were not affected. Officers did not specify what was damaged.
Earlier on Tuesday, authorities in the Brandenburg municipality of Turnow‑Preilack, about 20 kilometers from the German‑Polish border, discovered an explosive device at a power station.
The local grid operator, Amprion, confirmed the incident and said there was a “high probability” of external interference. The company reported that equipment at RWE Power failed as a result, but grid stability and electricity supply remained intact.
Reuters noted that German energy infrastructure has been targeted before, including by left‑wing militants.
Both incidents occurred on the same day Berlin formally accused Russia of attempting to attack a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig Airport in early August. Workers at the airport, Europe’s third‑largest cargo hub, found an explosive‑laden drone on the tarmac next to an Antonov aircraft.
That same night, an unidentified object collided with a DHL cargo plane near the airport. Authorities suspect it may also have been a drone.
