Speaking on Monday in an interview on New York Post columnist Miranda Devine's Pod Force One podcast, Trump suggested that after a month or two of vetoes, the two sides might eventually reach agreements.
'I'll be vetoing, vetoing'
"Look, if we didn't win, I think we're going to do great," he said. "But if we didn't win, I veto everything. I'll be vetoing, vetoing. Then they'll come along, and we'll probably make some deals along the way. But it wouldn't be as good."
Trump questioned the reliability of polls suggesting Republicans would lose, claiming that polling organisations were rigging their results and might not be conducting surveys properly.
He said he believed Republicans would perform well, based on the crowds at his campaign rallies.
He said his involvement in the midterm campaign was helping Republicans and noted that previous presidents, from both parties, had struggled in midterm elections.
He said he had never been as involved in such a campaign as he was this time.
'I'd love to run again'
He said he would like to run for president again if he could, but appeared to acknowledge that he was not allowed to run for re-election in 2028.
"Look, I'd love to run again if I had the chance. But the language is very exacting," Trump said. "I would love to run. They had a poll the other day where I beat everybody by so much, I'd love to run. But it's fine. You know, we have more than two years left—that's a long time. We can do a lot in that period of time."
