Trump last week cancelled his planned trip to Poland to mark 80 years since the beginning of World War II, saying he needed to stay and monitor Hurricane Dorian as it approached the southern state of Florida.
Trump also said at the time that Vice President Mike Pence would travel to Warsaw in his place to attend the events to commemorate the anniversary on September 1.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House on Sunday, Trump said: “I do have a great message for Poland. And we have Mike Pence, our Vice President, … representing me. I look forward to being there soon.”
He added: “[Poland] is a great country with great people. We also have many Polish people in our country; it could be 8 million. We love our Polish friends. And I will be there soon.”
On Friday, Krzysztof Szczerski, a top aide to Polish President Andrzej Duda, said Warsaw had proposed several possible dates for Trump’s rescheduled visit and "they all cover the next three months."
Polish President Andrzej Duda and US Vice President Mike Pence met for talks in Warsaw on Monday, with bilateral military ties and energy cooperation on top of the agenda.
