Idlib was where PAH relocated the refugees from the war-torn Aleppo region back in 2016 and seemed to be a safer province.
Now the situation is dramatic, say representatives of the organization. Thousands of people are camping on the Turkish border, which is closed, and the Syrians have nowhere to flee to.
Many of them cannot even find shelter in the camps, which are overcrowded. Some 80,000 of the internally displaced persons are sleeping on the streets or in the fields, in harsh weather. They lack basic commodities and fear for their children - a lost generation for Syria.
The Polish Humanitarian Action is appealing for donations, as are other Polish charity organisations operating in the region: the Polish Medical Mission and the Polish Center for International Aid.
The civil war in Syria has forced over 5 million people to flee their country. Thousands, including a large number of civilians, have been killed during fierce fighting between Syrian government forces, backed by Russia, and rebels. Hundreds of thousands are internally displaced, fleeing from their homes in the war-ravaged regions.
Idlib province is the last region which is still in the hands of the opposition rebels. Air raids in past weeks, on military targets but also on hospitals, schools and administration buildings, have caused over a million people to lose their homes.
