Russia will expel three Polish diplomats in a tit-for-tat response to Warsaw's move, the Interfax news agency cited the deputy head of international affairs at Russia's lower house of parliament as saying on Thursday.
The Russian ambassador in Warsaw was informed of Poland's decision after being summoned to the foreign ministry earlier in the day.
"The basis for this decision was the violation of diplomatic status and carrying out activities to the detriment of the Republic of Poland by the indicated persons," the foreign ministry in Warsaw said in a statement.
'Full solidarity' with US
It added: "Poland expresses its full solidarity with the decisions taken by the United States [on Thursday] regarding its policy towards Russia."
Washington imposed a broad array of sanctions on Moscow to punish it for what the Reuters news agency described as alleged interference in the US election, cyber-hacking, bullying Ukraine and other "malign" acts.
The White House also said it was expelling ten staff from a Russian diplomatic mission in Washington.
'Destabilising behaviour' by Russia
The United States' NATO allies backed the American sanctions on Russia, condemning Moscow over a build-up of Russian troops along Ukraine's border.
"Russia continues to demonstrate a sustained pattern of destabilising behaviour," the Western military alliance said in a statement of all 30 NATO allies, accusing Moscow of violating Ukraine's sovereignty, interfering in US elections and engaging in malicious cyber activities.
