Over 2,400 civilian deaths in Ukraine's Mariupol since Russia invaded: EU

More than 2,400 civilians have been killed in the southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol since Russia invaded the country last month, the European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday.

Borrell told reporters that more than 2.6 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia attacked the country on February 24, the Reuters news agency reported.

He estimated that the number of refugees could rise to 5 million, according to Reuters.

Poland on Monday said it had admitted over 1.76 million refugees fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
