According to the Polish PM such a step "will additionally force Russia to consider whether it would be better to stop this cruel war."
The European Union has so far imposed four rounds of sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion in Ukraine, launched on 24 February.
"Poland is proposing to add a trade blockade to this package of sanctions as soon as possible, both for seaports … but also a ban on land trade," Morawiecki told a press conference during a visit to Telesystem Mesko, a Polish ammunition and rockets R&D centre, in Lubiczów near the capital Warsaw.
"We must show our strength and determination towards Russia, otherwise we will have to pay a higher price in the near future," Morawiecki said at the Telesystem-Mesko centre.
He said that that in the coming years Poland will increase its military spending "in an unprecedented dimension … to be well prepared for possible bad scenarios."
The European Council will meet on 24-25 March 2022 in Brussels.
