Andrii Deshchytsia made the declaration in an interview with the polskatimes.pl website, which was published on Friday.

Asked if his war-torn country would like to join the regional drive, the ambassador responded: “Very much so. We’ve tried to join this initiative for the past few years.”

‘I would like Ukraine to join Three Seas Initiative’: Polish president

During a recent visit to Kyiv, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda said he would like Ukraine to join the Three Seas Initiative.

Deshchytsia welcomed the Polish head of state’s suggestion, noting that “The Three Seas Initiative has demonstrated its efficiency and good prospects for the future.”

He added that the drive was beneficial to the region and Europe as a whole, sparking interest “from the United States and even Japan.“

“And so Ukraine is very much interested in joining the Three Seas Initiative,” he stressed.

‘Ukraine would strengthen the Three Seas Initiative’

The ambassador said that Ukraine’s entry would strengthen the regional club and widen its possibilities “when it comes to logistics, infrastructure, security, financial turnover and transport.”

"It would strengthen the Three Seas Initiative's standing within the European Union," he added.

Deshchytsia will be a guest at a conference of local-government officials from the Three Seas region, which will take place in the eastern Polish city of Lublin next week, polskatimes.pl reported.

The Three Seas Initiative brings together European Union countries situated between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas: Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.

It seeks to deepen political, economic, energy and infrastructure ties between its members.

The Ukrainian envoy's declaration came as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entered its 100th day.
