Andrzej Duda’s remarks came in an interview with Germany’s Bild newspaper, which was published on Thursday, Poland’s tvp.info website reported.
The Polish president was highly critical of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron. Both recently spoke with the Russian head of state, tvp.info noted.
'Did anyone speak like this with Adolf Hitler?'
“Did anyone speak like this with Adolf Hitler during World War Two?,” Duda said in the interview.
“Did anyone say that Adolf Hitler must save face? That we should proceed in such a way that it is not humiliating for Adolf Hitler?,” he added.
"I have not heard such voices," Poland’s president stressed, as cited by tvp.info.
Duda also stated that “we must help Ukrainians in every possible way,” tvp.info reported.
The Polish president voiced his hope that “Russian imperialism will break its teeth in Ukraine,” as quoted by tvp.info.
Scholz, Macron speak with Putin
Scholz and Macron held a joint call with Putin on May 28. They urged the Russian leader to release fighters captured at Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant and to speak directly with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to a statement from Macron’s aides.
Last weekend, the French president said it was important that the West doesn’t “humiliate Russia” and seek a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Zelensky rejected suggestions that his country make territorial concessions to Russia, comparing such ideas to the appeasement of Hitler in 1938, news outlets reported.
Thursday is day 106 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
