Zbigniew Rau and Jeppe Kofod met at Denmark’s Baltic island of Bornholm, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
In the course of the two-day talks, the Polish and Danish top diplomats discussed “defence and security cooperation, the situation in Ukraine, as well as bilateral relations, including cooperation in the field of energy and green transition,” Poland’s foreign ministry said in a statement afterwards.
On Tuesday, Rau and Kofod spoke about “further development of Polish-Danish cooperation and European Union energy security in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the Polish foreign ministry tweeted.
'Denmark is Poland's vital ally'
At a joint news conference with his Danish host on Tuesday, Poland’s top diplomat said: “Denmark is Poland’s vital ally and partner. The in-depth talks I held with Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod are an important element in building our joint, unified response to the difficult reality in Europe.”
Support for Ukraine, energy cooperation
Rau said that he and Kofold “agreed that consistent support for Ukraine is the overriding aim” as well as “the highest priority for as long as Ukraine needs it,” the IAR news agency reported.
Poland's top diplomat went on to say: “We are seeing a serious threat to the economy because of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, in particular the threat of energy crisis resulting from the limited supply of raw materials from Russia.”
He stressed: “In this context, Poland-Denmark gas cooperation is of fundamental importance.”
Rau invited Kofold for the launch of the Baltic Pipe, Poland's new pipeline bringing gas from Norway through Denmark, due for opening in two weeks' time.
“The Baltic Pipe project will not only boost the Polish-Danish partnership in the energy sector but will also help improve Europe’s energy security,” Poland’s foreign minister stated.
Tuesday was day 202 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
