The colonial-era bridge over the Machchhu River was packed with sightseers when it collapsed on Sunday evening, sending people plunging about 10 metres into the water, the Reuters news agency reported.
It said the death toll from the tragedy rose to 134 on Monday, including many children, as police detained nine people as part of a criminal investigation into the accident.
The government of Gujarat, the home state of the Indian prime minister, has set up a five-member team to investigate the disaster in Morbi, according to Reuters.
