According to Palestinian authorities, more than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli shelling of the Gaza Strip since October 7.

Forensic pathologist Yasser Khatab, who works at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city of Dajr al-Balah, said in a recording provided to CNN that the facility cannot handle the large number of bodies, with some being kept for days before someone picks them up.

"Gaza needs help," Khatab said, listing the urgent need for morgue coolers, medical equipment and "coffins and equipment to handle the bodies."

The Palestinian Medical Authority said Saturday that 2215 civilians, including 724 children and 458 women, have already been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7, when the conflict reignited with Hamas’ brutal terrorist attack on Israel. According to authorities, 8714 people have been wounded, including 2450 children and 1536 women, CNN reported.

Israeli authorities declared a siege of the Gaza Strip on October 7, cutting off electricity, water, gas and food supplies, and the military began intensive bombardment of the Palestinian territory. This is in response to a brutal attack by militants of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, in which at least 1,300 people were killed and more than 150 abducted in Israel. Among those killed and kidnapped are women, children and the elderly.
