The Russian strikes killed two people in Kyiv, five in the central city of Dnipro, and a further two in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, where at least 15 people, including two children, were injured, officials in Kyiv said.
In all, 12 people were killed and at least 60 injured as the Russian drones and missiles damaged a maternity hospital and shopping centre in Dnipro, and buildings in Odesa, the western city of Lviv and the eastern city of Kharkiv, news outlets reported.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said on the Telegram social messaging app that Russia had attacked Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, among other cities, firing some 110 missiles and killing civilians, as well as damaging a maternity hospital, educational institutions, a shopping centre, high-rise buildings and private homes, a commercial warehouse and a car park.
Russia also hit a critical infrastructure facility in the western Lviv region bordering Poland, according to Ukrainian officials.
Zelensky vowed Ukraine would "strike back at the terrorists and that "Russian terror must lose," the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.
Russia used hypersonic, cruise and ballistic missiles, according to Ukraine's air force.
Ukrainian officials have warned Russia could be preparing a winter strikes campaign against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, similar to last year's attacks, the Reuters news agency reported.
After Friday's strikes, there were power outages in four provinces, according to the energy ministry in Kyiv.
Friday is day 674 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
