The meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m., marks the first major discussion since European Parliament elections earlier this month.
Leaders from the 27 member countries will discuss appointments for heads of the European Commission, the European Council, and the EU's diplomatic service for the next five years.
Negotiators from various parliamentary groups will be present, with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis representing the European People's Party (EPP).
The center-right EPP, having won the recent election, holds the privilege of nominating the candidate for European Commission President.
Both Tusk and Mitsotakis are expected to reaffirm support for Ursula von der Leyen's second term.
"In these turbulent times, we need stability and continuity," von der Leyen stated recently.
Today's discussions will be crucial in determining Germany's chances of securing von der Leyen's re-election, with a decision possibly emerging later on Monday.
