"Poland will support France in ensuring security during the Olympic Games," top national security official Jacek Siewiera announced on Wednesday.

He added that President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday "signed a decision to use a Polish military contingent ... to support the French armed forces in securing the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris."

The Polish contingent will be made up of 20 soldiers, including dog handlers, according to Siewiera, who heads the Polish president's National Security Bureau (BBN).

The Polish soldiers will "carry out tasks protecting infrastructure and supporting anti-terrorist operations" from June 24 to September 30, Siewiera said in a social media post.

Poland's Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said in March that the Polish military would join an international coalition established by France to help provide security during the 2024 Summer Olympics.

He added at the time that Polish soldiers would help detect explosives and counteract terrorist threats in the French capital.

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11.
