Sikorski believes the detention of the Poles is a misunderstanding, stating, "They were unfortunate to be caught up in Nigeria's political controversies," and noted that he cannot disclose all details.

Currently, it is known that six University of Warsaw students and their lecturer are staying in a hotel after being transferred from Kano in northern Nigeria to the capital, Abuja.

"No charges have been filed against them; the procedures to conclude the investigation are ongoing," Sikorski explained, adding that the Polish consul remains in contact with Nigerian authorities and relevant services. "The consular service will continue working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and achieve a positive outcome," he added.

Sikorski also thanked the Nigerian authorities for their cooperation, assuring that the families are being kept informed and will soon receive photos from the meeting.

On Friday, Deputy Foreign Minister Jakub Wiśniewski stated that Polish consular services immediately acted to determine the circumstances of the detention, which occurred amid mass unrest and restrictions in Nigeria.

During a meeting with the Nigerian charge d'affaires, Wiśniewski expressed doubts about reports of students allegedly waving Russian flags, suggesting that their behavior might have stemmed from a lack of understanding of local customs and laws.

Protests in Nigeria have been ongoing since early August as part of the "10 Days of Fury" campaign, featuring clashes with police and looting, particularly in the northern part of the country.
