The "Freedom and Democracy" Foundation, a Polish non-governmental organization, has been officially recognized as an extremist organization by the Belarusian government.

This decision, reportedly backed by the Belarusian KGB, is primarily attributed to the foundation’s work in advocating for human rights in Belarus. The organization has for years been supporting individuals suffering from repressions by the Minsk authorities. It also provides assistance to Polish media and education initiatives in post-Soviet countries.

According to private broadcaster RMF24, the foundation is among Poland's top three NGOs focused on fostering civil society beyond its eastern borders. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the foundation's leadership has chosen not to comment on the Belarusian decision at this time.

The regime’s ‘extremist organizations’ list currently includes 233 entities, and those involved with these groups risk severe penalties, including up to seven years in prison.
