Zelensky has said that a key strategic meeting of the "Ramstein" group in October will confirm ongoing strategy against Russia. However, his own recent trip to the US suggests that the US presidential election in November will be crucial.

Ukraine's President Zelensky has called October the "time for decisions" and requested a meet of the key allies of Ukraine informally called the "Ramstein Group".

However, as his recent meetings in the US have demonstrated, the American elections in November may the moment when the real decision is taken.

Donald Trump has said that he has a plan to end the war based on his "good relationship with Putin" but he also has been unable to avoid undiplomatic criticisms of Zelensky:

"He has been saying nasty things about your favourite president, me."

Kamala Harris by contrast said that it is a Ukrainian decision when to end the war and on what terms, reiterating her commitment to Ukraine.

Zelensky met both Harris and Trump in an attempt to separate America's commitment to Ukraine from internal American politics, apparently unsuccessfully. Pro-democrat commentators have pointed out the different "chemistry" and the respective meetings:
