"Please leave Iran immediately," Radosław Sikorski, the head of Polish diplomacy, addressed fellow citizens on social media on Monday morning. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has long advised against staying in Iran due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

For the past two weeks, Israel has been heavily bombing areas where Hezbollah, a terrorist organization, stores its weapons and fighters. More than 1,000 people have died, and around one million residents have fled north to safer areas.

Amid this escalating conflict, Sikorski once again urged President Duda to "fulfill his constitutional duty and appoint the ambassador to Israel, as requested in accordance with the law."

In Poland, a persistent disagreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President Duda has delayed ambassadorial appointments. For several years, Poland has lacked a formal ambassador in Israel, with a chargé d'affaires currently heading the diplomatic mission.

Dozens of ambassadorial nomination requests are still awaiting the signature of the President of Poland.

As Minister Sikorski stated in an interview with TVN24, „the president appoints and dismisses ambassadors”. According to Polish law, the head of state does this at the request of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"I submit these requests in accordance with the law. I have already submitted several dozen of them after consulting the foreign service convention," Sikorski said.

Monday also marks the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, which led to the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the abduction of 250 individuals by Palestinian militants into Gaza. Since then, ongoing conflict has claimed over 41,000 lives in Gaza, according to health ministry reports.

After months of military action in Gaza, the conflict has shifted to Lebanon, where Hezbollah, like Hamas, is armed and supported by Iran.

Hezbollah has been attacking Israel for over a year, forcing thousands of people in border regions to flee. In response to Israel's offensive and the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iran launched an unprecedented airstrike, further heightening the risk of a broader regional conflict.
