Poland’s air passenger transport growth among highest in Europe: Eurostat

The number of air passengers passing through Poland rose 16 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year, marking one of the biggest hikes in the EU, the bloc’s statistics agency has reported.

Polish airports handled nearly 46 million passengers last year.

In terms of the increase rate, Poland was on a par with Latvia and Slovakia. The largest increase was noted in Lithuania, at 19 percent compared to 2017.

The smallest increases were in Sweden, with 1 percent; the UK, with 3 percent; and Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands, each with 4 percent.

In 2018, a record 1.1 billion passengers travelled by air in the European Union, almost 63 million more than in the previous year, according to Eurostat.
