Head of the regulator’s communications department, Jacek Barszczewski said that the victims of the frauds in Poland are “both people actively using modern technologies, and older Poles who rarely use online banking systems.”

According to Barszczewski scammers are faking e-mails and text messages from financial institutions to extort data, which they use to steal money.

He also pointed out that scams are often carried out through social media or simply over the phone.

“Education and awareness are the most efficient guarantees of safety of one’s financial means,” Barszczewski was quoted by the PAP news agency as saying.
