At the opening ceremony of the Polish Capital Congress in Warsaw on Thursday, the head of the Polish government said that despite living in times of an economic breakthrough, business must remember to grow “in such a way that it is at the same time fully socially and politically acceptable”.
According to Morawiecki, this means that the elements often analyzed by business today, such as the environment, social, and governance (ESG) principles “are fundamentally important for the proper reconstruction of the entire system, for the creation of new regulations”.
“I believe that in the modern world we must look for what is socially acceptable, what protects the environment, but at the same time provides opportunities for rapid development”, Morawiecki summed up.
“Today, new energy, environmental protection principles, renewable energy are in the best interest of the Polish state, which, after all, does not have hydrocarbons in sufficient quantities”, adding that Poland will aim not only to move away from the hydrocarbons supplied by “the barbaric aggressor that Russia has turned out to be”.
“We also do not want to buy hydrocarbons from neighboring 'decent countries'; hydrocarbons, which are very expensive and at the same time they also pollute the environment”, Morawiecki said.
Instead, the Polish government is “betting on development through science, through education, through implementation, through research, and at the same time inviting capital into (the process)”.
