The University of Warsaw on Thursday signed a deal with the state-run Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) company, a nuclear power plant developer, to launch academic instruction and research in nuclear engineering.

The University of Warsaw is a public institution of higher learning and the largest in the country, offering nearly 40 different fields of study.

“There is an increasing understanding within the industry that it needs to support some sort of research to have an impact on the education process, particularly at the postgraduate and doctoral levels, and to be able to subsequently take advantage of this for business development,” said the university's rector, Alojzy Nowak.

Radio Poland's Michał Owczarek has the story.
