Polish MPs approve 2024 budget

Poland's lawmakers have greenlighted the government's national budget for 2024, which foresees expenditures of PLN 866 billion (EUR 197.1 billion), with a deficit of 5.1% of GDP, according to European Union methodology.

MPs in the Sejm (lower house of parliament) approved the 2024 budget in a 240-191 vote, with three abstentions, on Thursday.

The plan includes PLN 866 billion (EUR 197.1 billion) in public spending, Polish Radio's polskieradio24.pl website reported.

Meanwhile, the government plans to raise PLN 682 billion (EUR 155.2 billion) in revenue.

This figure includes around PLN 604 billion (EUR 137.1 billion) in tax revenue, polskieradio24.pl website reported.

In all, the 2024 budget is projected to have a deficit of not more than PLN 184 billion (EUR 41.9 billion), the government in Warsaw said.

The overall public finances are expected to have a deficit of 5.1% of GDP in 2024, according to EU methodology, polskieradio24.pl reported.  

The 2024 budget now goes to the Senate (upper house) for consideration, according to officials.
