Sales of motor vehicles shot up by 22 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of fuels rose by 13.1 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
Meanwhile, sales of food, beverages and tobacco products inched down by 0.6 percent, while those of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics dropped 16.8 percent, according to Statistics Poland.
In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 4.6 percent higher than in January 2023, Statistics Poland said.
In month-on-month terms, retail sales in January were 19.5 percent lower than in December, the statistics office also reported.
