Prosperity in Europe: Polish consumers below EU average

In 2023, within the EU, actual individual consumption per capita (in purchasing power standards) was highest in Luxembourg, Austria and the Netherlands, while Poland fell 14% below the EU average in terms of material prosperity indicators, according to Eurostat.

Actual Individual Consumption (AIC) is a measure used to assess purchasing power among consumers in different countries.

Eurostat statistics show that in 2023, the residents of Luxembourg (38% above the average), as well as Austria and the Netherlands (17% above the average), fared best in this regard.

Seventeen countries fell below the EU average. The worst performers were Hungary (30% below the average), Bulgaria (27% below the average), and Slovakia and Latvia (25% below the average).

Regarding GDP per capita, eleven countries recorded results above the average level. The highest figures were in Luxembourg (139% above the EU average), Ireland (111%), and the Netherlands (30%).

The worst performers in terms of GDP per capita were Bulgaria (36% below the EU average), Greece (33%), and Latvia (29%).
