Sales of motor vehicles shot up by 23.8 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose by 10.2 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
Meanwhile, sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics went down by 8.4 percent, and those of clothing and shoes dropped 13.5 percent, according to Statistics Poland.
In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 5.4 percent higher than in May 2023, Statistics Poland said on Monday.
In month-on-month terms, retail sales in May were 0.1 percent lower than in April, the statistics office also reported.
