Polish jobless rate second-lowest in EU, at 3% in May: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland stood at 3 percent in May, marking the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union, the bloc’s statistics agency has reported.

The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in May, at 2.7 percent, while Malta trailed Poland in third place, with 3.2 percentaccording to the Eurostat agency.

Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 11.7 percent, and Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 10.6 percent, according to the latest available data.

Eurostat reported that the EU average for May was 6 percent, unchanged from April and stable compared with May 2023.

Poland's statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last month that the Polish jobless rate dropped to 5 percent in May, from 5.1 percent in April.
