The 7th edition, taking place on October 14, is themed "Join the e-waste hunt - retrieve, recycle, and revive," according to the WEEE Forum, a Brussels-based non-profit advocating for the recycling of electronic and electrical equipment.
This year's campaign, which kicked off in Poland on Sunday, highlights the often-overlooked electronics stored at home, such as old mobile phones, cables, USB drives and gaming devices.
These items contain valuable materials that could be repurposed, the WEEE Forum says.
It describes e-waste as "anything with a plug, cable or battery."
This year's campaign urges people to declutter their homes of unused or broken electronics, contributing to reduced pollution, resource conservation and lower energy consumption.
ElektroEko, a Polish nongovernmental organisation that seeks to champion recycling, says it has seen significant progress over the years in how electronic waste is handled in the country.
The NGO says it has helped collect around 1.5 million tonnes of e-waste since the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) collection system was introduced in Poland in 2006.
ElektroEko aims to apply the principles of the circular economy by promoting the recycling of used equipment and the reuse of recovered resources.
