Minsk claims that Polish products do not meet required standards and are allegedly unsafe for consumers’ health, with the embargo set to take effect on Monday.
The ban affects a wide range of clothing items, including jackets, sweaters, vests, blouses, and children’s underwear. Women’s nightgowns, pajamas, shorts, pants, and men’s shirts are also prohibited from being imported and sold in Belarus.
Belarusian authorities argue that Polish clothing does not comply with the technical regulations of the Customs Union, specifically regarding moisture absorption and air permeability. "In most cases, the air permeability safety requirements for adult products are violated," BelTA reported.
Polish children’s clothing is not the only product to vanish from Belarusian shelves. As Business Insider reports, earlier this year in May, Wojas, a prominent Polish footwear manufacturer, withdrew entirely from the Belarusian market. This move followed a broader ban on importing items such as footwear and textiles into the country under Lukashenko’s rule.
