Sofitel Grand Sopot was purchased from AccorInvest by the Polish company Sinfam Investments, which also owns the 4-star Hotel Warszawianka in Warsaw, one of the largest conference venues in the country.

One of Poland's prestigious five-star hotels, it was built in the 1920s and officially opened in 1927.

Among its guests were French General Charles de Gaulle, actress and singer Marlena Dietrich, screen star Greta Garbo, American diplomat Henry Kissinger, and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

In 1939, the building served as Adolf Hitler's headquarters during his invasion of Poland. Between 1944 and 1945, it housed a Military Evacuation Hospital.

Later, the building hosted the Dutch consul, and the Swiss consulate operated from there. Many films were also shot against its backdrop and within its interiors.
