President Andrzej Duda signed the proposed legislation into effect after it was voted through by parliament, state news agency PAP reported.

Under the law, electricity prices for households will be frozen at a maximum of PLN 500 (EUR 118, USD 125) per megawatt-hour (MWh) net until September 30, 2025, according to the government.

Meanwhile, local governments and public service providers will benefit from a price cap of PLN 693 per MWh net until the end of March.

The measure also extends an exemption from the capacity fee—a surcharge for maintaining power grid reliability—for certain consumers, primarily households, until mid-2025.

When suspended in mid-2024, the fee ranged from PLN 2.66 to PLN 14.90 net per month, depending on household energy consumption.

The government estimates the total cost of this support package at over PLN 5.6 billion, with PLN 3.73 billion allocated to capping household electricity prices.

Proponents argue that the regulations are crucial for protecting households and public institutions from volatile energy costs while maintaining grid stability.

However, critics have expressed concerns about the measure's long-term financial impact.

Now signed into law by the president, the new rules are expected to provide relief to millions of consumers nationwide.
