Although President Donald Trump overturned nearly 100 of his predecessor’s executive orders on his first day in office, he upheld regulations limiting sales of high-end AI chips to certain countries.
Poland was placed in a second-tier group (Tier 2) under the so-called “AI Diffusion” framework, capping its imports at 50,000 chips, with a potential expansion to 100,000.
“It’s a significant concern for Polish companies and research institutions,” Rzeczpospolita quoted Piotr Biegun of AI firm Algolytics as saying.
The newspaper noted that while current limits exceed near-term domestic demands, they could ultimately stifle large-scale projects—such as Poland’s planned Bielik language model (LLM) and future supercomputing initiatives.
“Should Poland pursue more advanced AI endeavors, these embargoes will bite,” the article said, referring to how export ceilings might force the country to seek alternative suppliers or abandon its more ambitious AI goals.
