Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in February: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 0.9 percent in February on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector increased by 7.2 percent in February compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 8,613.14 (EUR 2,053, USD 2,227), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy estimated this month that Poland's unemployment rate edged up to 5.5 percent in February, from 5.4 percent in January.

The average wage in Poland rose 9.5 percent last year compared with 2023, according to data released by Statistics Poland last month.

The country's minimum monthly wage increased to PLN 4,666 (EUR 1,110, USD 1,200) at the start of January, from PLN 4,300 in the second half of 2024.
