On Thursday, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company had decided not to move forward with the previously announced projects in Poland and Germany. Instead, Intel will consolidate its assembly and testing operations in Vietnam and Malaysia, and wind down smaller facilities, including one in Costa Rica.

The planned facility in Miękinia was expected to become Intel’s European hub for advanced semiconductor integration and testing. The investment was projected to create 2,000 direct jobs at Intel, along with thousands more across its supply chain and during the construction phase.

At the time of the initial announcement, then-Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, of the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party, hailed it as the largest greenfield investment in Poland’s history.
