“Train services through Warsaw Central will be suspended at the beginning of November to allow work on infrastructure upgrades that will increase capacity,” Deputy Minister Piotr Malepszak told reporters.
The shutdown is scheduled from 8 to 16 November 2025. During this time, no passenger or long-distance trains will pass through the station. Services will be rerouted via Warsaw Gdańska, a smaller station in the north of the capital.
Autumn closure to disrupt Polish rail travel
Officials say the works will allow trains from Warsaw West, another major station, to pass through Central, switch tracks and return - a manoeuvre not currently possible. The added flexibility is expected to prove crucial during the future reconstruction of Warsaw’s key cross-city line, which links the capital’s eastern and western districts.
That large-scale project is not expected to begin until after upgrades at Warsaw East Station are completed - no earlier than 2030, according to state rail operator PKP.
