The Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) said the country is now one of 36 member states out of 193 that will guide the work of the specialized agency over the next three years.

In the vote, Poland defeated the Russian Federation, sending a clear signal that the ICAO Council in Montreal does not welcome countries that violate the rules of the Chicago Convention.

ULC said Poland’s election is an opportunity to further support the safe and sustainable development of civil aviation, strengthen the national aviation sector - including key state-owned companies - and enhance Poland’s standing on the international stage.

Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski for their collaboration, saying: “This is our joint success, opening new global opportunities for Poland.”

The politician added that Poland’s presence on the ICAO Council in Montreal “is a major reinforcement of our position in the face of threats from the East.”

Minister Sikorski congratulated Mateusz Bączkowski, who will represent Poland on the ICAO Council, as well as ULC President Julian Rotter and the Ministry of Infrastructure for their effective cooperation.
