Poland’s president blocks more bills in months than Duda did in a decade
According to Polish news outlet Onet.pl, this brings the total number of laws he has blocked since his inauguration on 6 August 2025 to 20, surpassing the 19 bills vetoed by Duda over his decade-long presidency.
During his tenure, Duda signed 1,850 laws and referred 61 to the Constitutional Tribunal.
Presidential vetoes stall parliamentary legislation in Poland
The latest vetoes highlight growing tensions between the presidency and the Polish parliament.
On Thursday, the Sejm passed a bill regulating crypto-assets, which had previously been blocked by Nawrocki in September in a virtually identical form, as reported by the Polish state news agency PAP.
The legislation, which would place oversight of the crypto market under the Financial Supervision Authority, was rejected by the president’s office for being excessive, ambiguous, and disproportionate.
Backed by the PiS party, Nawrocki has yet to approve any ambassadorial nominations, effectively paralyzing Poland’s diplomatic operations abroad.
