Polish unemployment up to 6% in January: stats office

Unemployment in Poland inched up to 6 percent in January, from 5.7 percent in December, the country's statistics office reported on Tuesday.

The figure was in line with an earlier estimate by the labour ministry.

There were around 934,100 people without jobs across the nation at the end of January, up from 887,900 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency.

A year earlier, the unemployment rate stood at 5.4 percent.

According to the European Union'Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland had stood at 3.2 percent in Decembermarking one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc
