Poland's state-owned postal operator, Poczta Polska, says it has suspended acceptance of mail and packages addressed to countries in the Middle East due to regional instability and transport disruptions.

The suspension covers shipments to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, state news agency PAP reported on Tuesday.

The operator said the decision was prompted by an unstable situation in the region and resulting difficulties in transporting postal items.

Following the weekend's air strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel and retaliatory action by Iranian forces, several Middle Eastern countries closed their airspace.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency said on Saturday there was a high risk to civil aviation in the airspace of Iran and neighbouring countries hosting US military bases, recommending that operators avoid flights in the area.

Poczta Polska is Poland's largest postal operator. Its network includes about 7,600 branches and agencies nationwide. The company delivers around 800 million letters and 80 million parcels annually.
