The new 1.5-kilometre bridge will be built some 70 km southeast of the capital Warsaw, between the villages of Antoniówka Świerżowska and Świerże Górne, at a cost of some PLN 300 million (EUR 66 million, USD 80 million), public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported.
Design work is due to be completed by 2024 under an agreement signed by officials in the eastern town of Garwolin last month.
When announcing the project last year, President Andrzej Duda said the new bridge would benefit local residents and improve their quality of life after a wait of more than eight decades.
In all, 20 new bridges are expected to be constructed around the country under the Polish government's massive PLN 2.3 billion (EUR 510 million, USD 620 million) "Bridges for Regions" programme, Duda told voters at a campaign event last summer.
