Polish inflation at 6.8% in October: flash estimate

Inflation in Poland stood at 6.8 percent in year-on-year terms in October, hitting the highest level since May 2001, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said in a flash estimate on Friday.

The figure was 0.4 percentage points higher than forecast by economists polled by Poland’s PAP news agency.

In Septemberthe prices of consumer goods and services in Poland were 5.9 percent higher than in the same month a year earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office.

In August, Poland's consumer price index stood at 5.5 percent, the state-run statistics agency has said.

The Polish central bank’s Monetary Policy Council this month raised key interest rates for the first time since 2012 in a bid to stem inflation.
