Orlen Group’s gas carrier sets off from US terminal

The first of eight LNG carriers that will deliver LNG to Poland’s ORLEN Group has set sail from the Sabine Pass terminal in the United States.

PGNiG, part of the Orlen group, has signed charter agreements for a total of eight carriers, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, in a bid to efficiently import LNG, primarily from the United States.

According to the company’s statement, "having its own fleet of LNG vessels, the ORLEN Group will be able to efficiently manage shipments to Poland and strengthen its position on the global LNG market."

Each of the vessels is nearly 300 meters long and able to carry 174,000 cubic meters of LNG, or about 70,000 metric tons of liquefied natural gas.

The first two vessels will start operating in 2023. Two more gas carriers will be delivered in 2024, and another four in 2025.

Meanwhile, in January, Poland's energy giant PKN Orlen signed a long-term agreement for the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.
