The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in January at 2.5 percent, while Germany and Malta trailed Poland in joint third place, each with 3 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.
Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 13 percent, while Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 11.6 percent, according to the latest available data.
Eurostat reported on Thursday that the EU average for January was 6.1 percent, stable compared with December.
Poland's statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last week that the Polish jobless rate rose to 5.5 percent in January, from 5.2 percent in December.
