The figure was 0.3 percentage points lower than forecast by economists polled by Poland’s PAP news agency.
In January, the prices of consumer goods and services in Poland were 17.2 percent higher than in the same month a year earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency.
In December, Poland's consumer price index stood at 16.6 percent, Statistics Poland has reported.
Poland’s central bank chief, Adam Glapiński, last week renewed his prediction that inflation would drop to the single digits by the end of 2023.
The Polish central bank said in its latest Inflation Report, released on Friday, that inflation would average at 11.9 percent this year, followed by 5.7 percent in 2024 and 3.5 percent in 2025.
The bank’s rate-setting Monetary Policy Council last Wednesday left key interest rates unchanged, keeping the reference rate at 6.75 percent.

Radio Poland's Danuta Isler spoke to former deputy prime minister Jadwiga Emilewicz about the condition of the Polish economy and inflation.
"I am quite optimistic about the condition of the Polish economy," Emilewicz said in the interview.
"I think we are just on the top of inflation so in the coming months inflation is going to drop and the price of the basket of goods for Polish households in the mid-autumn period is going to be more acceptable," she added.
