There were around 848,300 people without jobs across the nation at the end of March, down by 16,500 from a year earlier, according to the government.

Employers across the nation added about 94,700 jobs last month, 700 more than a month earlier, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy announced.

The state-run Statistics Poland agency (GUS) reported last month that the Polish jobless rate had held steady at 5.5 percent in February, unchanged from January.

Meanwhile, the European Unions Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, estimated at the start of this month that unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in February, unchanged from January and the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
